Based on the famed video game of the same name, The Last of Us is coming to HBO – adapted by game creator Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin. The story takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by an infectious fungus called cordyceps. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across what remains of the United States.
