Jim Sharman's creation, which has already become a cult classic today, was criticized after its premiere in the UK and America in 1975. Ultimately, the low turnout led to the fact that the film was removed from the screens. The musical managed to appear only in eight cities and earn 22 thousand dollars. Gaining the status of a cult classic starring Tim Curry happened a year later, in 1976. Then one of the New York cinemas began its midnight screenings, which were also interactive - the audience could shout lines from their seats. Such movie screenings gained popularity in many American cities and soon revived the Rocky Horror Picture Show 3D.
