The final season. The Boys ends after five seasons of gore, satire, and Homelander being the scariest villain on TV. Season 5 picks up after the Season 4 cliffhanger—I won’t spoil it, but things are bad. Butcher is dying (you’ve known this was coming), Homelander has gone full dictator, and the team is scattered. The season is dark. Darker than before. There are fewer laughs this time, though the ones that land are brutal. A scene involving a superhero’s birthday party is the funniest thing the show has ever done. The gore is extreme as always—people explode, heads get crushed, a death involving a woodchipper that’s hard to watch. The ending is satisfying in a way that surprised me. Not everyone makes it. I won’t say who, but you’ll cry. The show sticks the landing, which is rare for a series this big. If you’ve been watching since the beginning, you need this. If you’re new, start with Season 1.
